Activities Completed

Very dry season at the beginning of the year, with temperatures of 35 degrees recorded on some days

  • Work load involved maintenance of planted trees in the dry and rocky sections: Spot weeding, gapping, watering and mulching of approximately 17km stretch of the Greenline between KAPA area and the Cheetah gate in AthiRiver. The trees are doing well, only 5% mortality recorded
  • Watering in the dry season was by water bowser, as piping has not been done on this end
  • Rain season. Planting of 25,000 tree seedlings done in the entire Greenline
  • Additional project of digging some required storm drains done in areas where there is too much water logging. The trees are surviving as a result.

On-going Activities

  • Live hedge:
The live hedge is being planted in some sections, and on other sections being secured with thorny bushes, to keep off wild rabbits, which nibble on the leaves and leave it bare to wither and die
  • Electric fence:
Maintenance activities being done –cutting the grass around it to allow it to work efficiently
  • Picnic sites:
The first picnic preparation on-going. Another 12 sites have been identified and marked on GPS. Work processes in discussion
  • Maintenance:
Storm drains being dug in areas where water logging is extreme
Watering being done where required, as it is the dry season
